The "icy ovaries" were the first point in the book where I felt it was truly dated. Those who were around when this was breaking news must have wondered about its implications for relations between men and women. People my age don't have to wonder; we were born long after this, and it's hard to detect what (if any) affect it had. -

I'm with you, Kirsten! The yellow and blue notebooks are when I cannot avoid thinking about this book's historical context.
