    I imagine they see the same therapist because in 1957 this was a rare thing to do, and psychoanalysts (isn't this what she is called?) were not easy to find, and the etiquette of not sharing therapists with friends/family hadn't evolved yet. It was still an unknown, new science. I think you are reading too much symbolism into it but OK.

    Reading the comments on page 16 ... almost all link the two women as having been to a therapist, albeit the same one and not as two declared, even if ruefully maybe, as free women. Seeing a therapist at all in those years set them apart as so called free to do so, i.e. not having to defend it. PjV
